  • VIDA is a not-for-profit international and domestic adoption agency, founded in 1986. VIDA is HAGUE ACCREDITED for incoming and outgoing adoptions. We place children with families throughout the world. To serve the needs of children who wait or will remain in their home country, VIDA also has international development programs. VIDA was organized in the early 1980s when a dedicated group of professionals in social work, psychology, psychiatry and education convened to plan a placement agency that would emphasize the child’s needs first. The adoption program is designed to remain current with the changing economic and social situations of children. VIDA is licensed in New York State and New Jersey and works cooperatively in all 50 states and many foreign countries. VIDA successfully works with Americans living abroad, foreign nationals, and military families throughout the world.

Comment from Patricia Vassi: We adopted our 2 year old son Jonathan Andres Vassi from Pasto Columbia in Dec 1987 from VIDA. He has multiple disabilities and as an adult now lives in a 24/7 group home close by and as his parents and legal guardians we are very involved in his life and see him regularly. He relies on government benefits and they are now requiring us to show proof of US citizenship. We submitted everything we have - Columbia birth certificate, Columbian passport, adoption papers and resident alien card. They are not accepting this as proof of citizenship. We are asking you to look at your records and to help us get documentation from his adoption to prove he is a US citizen. Please respond asap so he does not lose his benefits and housing. Thank you.
